This article discusses the Impact of Silymarin Herb on Patients with Breast Cancer.
Silymarin (Milk Thistle) has been a well-known herb for many years as a liver support agent and is useful for both protection against liver damage and mitigating the damage that happens to the liver.
One of the Significant side effects of Chemotherapy in Patients with Breast Cancer is the Elevation of the Liver Enzymes, especially with Doxorubicin and Cyclophosphamide. Today will present research on the value of using Silymarin in protection against Chemotherapy Liver Toxicities in Patients with Breast Cancer.
This study, which was published on April 16th, 2021, was conducted on 30 patients with Breast Cancer who underwent Surgery and were Scheduled for an Adjuvant Chemotherapy, AC (Adriamycin and Cyclophosphamide) followed by T (Taxol). 15 Patients were given the Silymarin in addition to the Chemotherapy and the other 15 patients were given a Placebo with Chemotherapy. The 2 groups were blindly randomized, and the liver enzymes were tested after the chemotherapy.
It was found that Silymarin Reduced Liver damage in patients as compared to the Placebo group.
