Ontario Naturopathic Clinic One of the side effects of Radiation treatments to pelvic organs such as for patients with Rectal Cancer or Prostate Cancer is the development of proctitis which is inflammation of the rectal wall. This side effect not only causes pain and difficulty in passing stools, but it can potentially delay the treatment and so may negatively impact the overall treatment effects. This article discusses the naturopathic support for the prevention of radiation-induced inflammation in recent research.

In this research, patients who were treated with pelvic irradiation were given a natural gel (Aloe Vera) at a dose of 1 Gram of 3% Aloe Vera twice daily during the whole radiation treatment and were compared to another group who received a placebo cream.
At the end of this research, it was concluded that the patients who had the Aloe Vera Natural treatment had much less radiation-induced toxicities as compared to those who did not have such treatment.
