Mental Health and Probiotics

Over many years, mental health and cognitive disorders were thought to be related to nervous system or brain dysfunction. However, recent research found that there is a link between our normal gut bacteria (what is called gut microbiome) and our mental and emotional state.

The topic for today’s article will be about the Mental Health and Probiotics.

Currently, mental and emotional disorders such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorders and sleep disorders are so prevalent that at least one or more persons in each family may suffer an emotional or mental disorder during one or more periods of their life.

When people suffer from emotional disorders, the root cause(s) may vary from a stressful life situation to wordiness about different things such as their health, finances or relationships with others. Although working on the root cause(s) of the problems is integral in solving the emotional or mental disorder, however, in many instances it may be difficult or sometimes impossible to address these root causes.

Recently, the role of normal bacteria in balancing the mental and emotional state of people is being understood, and it is explained by the fact that normal bacterial flora is essential to keep the immune system balance, enhance the digestion process in the gut, and also improve our mental and emotional  state.
