In 2017 statistics in Toronto and Canada for liver cancer http://www.cancer.ca/en/cancer-information/cancer-type/liver/statistics/?region=on found that 2500 cases of liver cancer were diagnosed with liver cancer. 12,00 Canadians would die from liver cancer, and 1900 men would be diagnosed with cancer, while for the same disease, women represented only 580 cases.
How to diagnose liver cancer?
Generally, patients with liver cancer present with general weakness, fatigue, and tiredness. Pain in the right side of the abdomen and yellow discoloration of the eye are late signs of the disease. To diagnose liver cancer accurately, a blood test is known as AFP (Alpha-Fetoprotein) and a biopsy from the liver is needed.
Treatment of liver cancer
The most effective treatment for liver cancer is surgery, complete removal of the liver cancer with a sufficient negative surgical margin.
Are all patients with liver cancer cured by surgery alone?
The answer to this question is unfortunately NO. Simply because some of the patients develop recurrence of a tumor after surgery, and many present with a quite advanced disease that is beyond the surgical removal.
Other conventional medical treatments
Transhepatic arterial chemoembolization, transhepatic arterial radioisotope installation, ultrasound-guided tumor ablation, intrahepatic alcohol injection, or systemic chemotherapy. These modalities are not available in every hospital in Canada and they have their only limitations being only directed to the local tumor area and not targeting remote sites which may harbor occult cancers
What are Natural Treatment interventions that could potentially help?
The use of Intravenous high doses of vitamin C (IVHDVC) and Mistletoe injections can help reduce the size of the lesions from liver cancer or improve the quality of life of liver cancer patients. There is research done on a patient with liver cancer who developed lung spread and was treated with a high dose intravenous vitamin C after the failure of the transhepatic intraarterial chemotherapy who showed the complete disappearance of lung spread of cancer as well the primary liver cancer.
