How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture is the insertion of tiny needles inside the energy pathways of the body, which is called in the Chinese medicine language (Energy Meridians). By inserting the needle with a certain length and caliber at a particular point that matches the right energy meridian, the body energy either increases or decreases, this depends on the technique of insertion.
So, what happens in stress and anxiety?
In stressful situations, the energy meridians become either overenergetic when the person does not express his or her emotions, or simply repress it, and in this situation, a relaxing type of acupuncture is needed to get rid of the excess negative energy of the body. The reverse happens when the body's energy is depleted and needs more energy.
Can acupuncture help stress reduction?
The short answer to this question is YES, acupuncture can help in stress reduction.
What is the scientific evidence/proof of this?
An extensive systematic review research study ( Sniezek D, and Siddiqui I, 2013 ) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3689180/ was done on six randomized controlled trials all comparing subjects with anxiety and depression who received acupuncture with those who did not receive acupuncture. The results revealed a high level of evidence to support the positive role of acupuncture in stress reduction
